Is the Producers Legal Program for me?

If you’re creating a filmed entertainment story that you plan to sell, you can’t put business and legal issues off. As Charlton Heston said, “The trouble with movies as a business is that it’s an art, and the trouble with movies as art is that it’s a business.” But attorney representation based on billable hours may be too expensive for the regular timely guidance you need during development of an indie project. Enter the Producers Legal Program.

If I decide to cancel, how do I do it?

You may cancel your membership in the Producers Legal Program anytime by email. If you cancel before the end of your membership period, you’ll get a pro-rated refund for any remaining time.

What if I’m outside California or Oregon?

Because attorneys must usually be licensed in a state to practice, the Producers Legal Program is most effective for California and Oregon filmmakers. We invite producers in other states to join with promo code FEDERAL at a discounted rate of $75 per month (save $150 with annual billing). Members outside California and Oregon get discounted script coverage and packaging services, but legal advice is limited to copyrights, trademarks, federal securities laws, and other federal matters.

What about setting up a production company, etc.?

Producer’s Legal Program members get an exclusive reduced rate for all transactional work, which covers projects like structuring and organizing limited liability companies and limited partnerships for film production, preparing private investment offerings, clearing chain-of-title, negotiating and drafting above- and below-the-line contracts, and reviewing sales agent and distribution agreements.

What is film packaging?

Packaging a film or television project is a process starting with script coverage and continuing through writing a business plan, developing director and talent attachments, advising on film financing options, and planning and setting meetings at film markets with foreign and domestic sales and distribution representatives. Your membership in the Producer’s Legal Program includes guidance on packaging your project and creating a pitch deck, plus a discounted rate for related services such as providing script notes, negotiating and documenting above-the-line attachments, and preparing private investment offering disclosures and documents.
